Join fellow colleagues and supporters of FIU’s Wall of Wind Experimental Facility in raising funds for the establishment of the Walter Conklin Scholarship Fund.
The intent of the scholarship is to assist an undergraduate or graduate student meet financial needs while pursuing their education and training in the field of wind engineering as pioneered by FIU’s Extreme Events Institute (EEI), IHRC, and Civil and Environmental Engineering Department (CEE).
Walter was a core team member of the Wall of Wind program from its inception. He coordinated the development and design of the entire system and his contributions to the Wall of Wind’s unique design positioned FIU as a world leader in education, research, and commercialization of hurricane mitigation technologies.
Walter passed October 2024 after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a friend, colleague, and mentor to many during his years at FIU and within the broader natural hazards engineering research community.
